word of the year 2024

SIMPLIFY

I think this has been my word in the past, but this year I MEAN it.

My version of simplifying has been a process.

A few years ago I began the process of simplifying my mind.

I had a lot of unprocessed trauma, mindset baggage, worries about the future and the past, just a lot going on up there constantly.

After doing a ton of “self help”, I realized I needed more than just literature to read on the subject….  I needed a wonderful human being who could gently call me out on my bullshit.  Finding this person was the turning point to simplifying my brain clutter.

Out of nowhere (or perhaps perfectly placed in my world by the Universe herself) comes Kirstin Hotelling Zona.  A petite and gorgeous woman with a HUGE message and voice to pull people from living in grey areas for too long.

We spent 6 months doing intense work together.   My mind was gently cracked open to new ways of thinking and approaching life.

She held me accountable to doing the work, and I came out a new woman.

This work is on-going, and I admittedly could use a tune up, but so much of that time with Kirstin is forever engraved in me and has changed my life.

About the same time I began working with a coach, along came the pandemic.   This is a whole different blog to write, but one day we were living big juicy adventurous lives, and then “poof,” …. GONE.

I didn’t even know I was capable of slowing down like that.   During this time of staying home, I began to simplify further.    The era of the “No’s”.   I gave myself permission to say NO to ALL the things.    This even got dangerous ….   I’m still trying to figure out a healthy balance of getting back out of the No’s era.    But it did indeed simplify my life one step further.

So what’s this years version of simplify look like?

It’s a lot of less….

Less stuff

Less junk

Less consumables

Less fancy

Less forcing

Less worries

Less controlling

Less perfection

Less mess

Less busy

It’s really a shakedown of what’s real, necessary and joyful.

Simply,

A simple life.

That’s what I want in 2024
